The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the United States, reported clashes with Syrian government troops in the Dayr Hafir area of Aleppo province in northern Syria. The SDF stated that government forces attacked four of its posts in Dayr Hafir, threatening a unification deal reached in March aimed at reuniting Syria after years of conflict. Separately, the SDF reported that five of its members were killed in an attack by the Islamic State. Meanwhile, violence in the southern city of Suweida has raised concerns among Syria's Kurdish population, potentially hardening their demands for decentralization and refusal to disarm. The recent violence has also strained relations between the Druze community and the Syrian government. Additionally, tensions between the Kurdish-led SDF and Arab tribes, particularly Bedouin tribes who supported attacks in Suweida, may increase the likelihood of clashes in northern and eastern Syria, possibly in support of the Syrian government.
Violence in Suweida is likely to change the SDF's negotiating position vis-a-vis Damascus, with increased fear among Kurds heightening pressure for a firmer stance https://t.co/PoVqwHx3ob
