Sony Group Corp. said it will raise the recommended retail price of every PlayStation 5 model in the United States by about $50 starting 21 August, attributing the move to a “challenging economic environment” and higher import costs linked to recent U.S. tariffs. Under the new pricing, the standard PS5 with a disc drive will cost $549.99, the PS5 Digital Edition $499.99 and the high-end PS5 Pro $749.99. The company added that prices for accessories remain unchanged and that it has no additional market increases to announce. The U.S. adjustment follows hikes Sony imposed in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in April. Rival console makers Microsoft and Nintendo have also lifted sticker prices in recent months as the industry contends with inflation, supply-chain strains and the 145% tariff on Chinese goods that took effect in April. Analysts say the higher console prices could weigh on demand ahead of this year’s slate of flagship game releases, but note that manufacturers are under pressure to preserve margins amid still-elevated component and logistics costs.
