Fifth seed Taylor Fritz survived a second consecutive five-set battle at Wimbledon, defeating Canadian qualifier Gabriel Diallo 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(0), 4-6, 6-3 on Court 1 to reach the tournament’s third round. The match, halted earlier in the evening, was completed under a closed roof as the American tightened his grip in the decider to end Diallo’s challenge. The 27-year-old world No. 5 has now played ten sets in the opening two rounds, a demanding schedule that follows his run to last weekend’s Eastbourne final. Fritz, who has won ten of his past eleven matches on grass and notched his 27th victory of the 2025 season, will face either Botic van de Zandschulp or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina next and remains the favourite to come through his quarter of the draw.
