Former Texas congressman and onetime Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke is facing sharp Republican criticism after using profane language to urge his party to take a more aggressive stance against Republicans. In remarks dated Aug. 12, O’Rourke said, “Who cares about the fucking rules right now… win some fucking power,” a line GOP commentators seized upon as advocating the abandonment of procedural norms. Several Republican‐leaning political groups accused O’Rourke of inciting violence, pointing in particular to separate comments in which he likened former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler. They argued the rhetoric was dangerous, noting past threats against Trump. O’Rourke’s office had not issued a response as of late Tuesday.
