Turkish defense technology company ASELSAN has successfully completed a critical test phase of its YILDIRIM-100 Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) system, designed to protect aerial platforms from advanced infrared-guided missile threats such as MANPADS. The system employs multi-band laser pulses to detect, track, and blind incoming missiles, effectively neutralizing threats including live warhead missiles. Integrated with various missile warning systems and flare dispensers, YILDIRIM-100 features a precision gimbal to accurately target and counter incoming guided missiles. The tests involved real missile warheads and demonstrated the system's capability to safeguard aircraft by disrupting the guidance of heat-seeking missiles. The development of YILDIRIM-100 marks a technological advancement for Turkey, placing it among a limited number of countries with such laser-based defense capabilities. Haluk Görgün, President of Turkey's Defense Industry Agency, confirmed the successful completion of the tests, emphasizing the system's role in enhancing the survivability and defense of Turkish aerial platforms against missile threats.
