Turkish defense company ASELSAN has successfully completed a critical test phase of its YILDIRIM-100 Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) system, designed to protect aerial platforms from advanced infrared-guided missile threats, including MANPADS. The system employs multi-band laser pulses to detect, track with a precision gimbal, and jam or blind incoming missiles, effectively neutralizing them during live-fire exercises involving real warhead missiles. The YILDIRIM-100 integrates with existing missile warning and flare dispensing systems on aircraft, enhancing survivability against guided missile attacks. The tests, confirmed by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) President Haluk Görgün, demonstrated the system's capability to counter real missile threats under multiple threat scenarios. ASELSAN’s development of this laser-based defense technology places Turkey among a limited group of countries possessing such advanced infrared countermeasure capabilities.
