Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler visited soldiers who were poisoned by methane gas while serving in the Pençe-Kilit Operation zone and are now receiving treatment at Gülhane Education and Research Hospital (GATA) in Ankara. He was accompanied by Chief of General Staff Orgeneral Metin Gürak and the commanders of the land, naval and air forces. Güler spoke with medical personnel to obtain updates on the soldiers’ conditions and conveyed well-wishes to the troops and their families. He told reporters the incident will be examined "to the finest detail," signalling a formal investigation into the cause of the toxic exposure.
