Turkish authorities have taken action against individuals suspected of deliberately starting forest fires across multiple provinces. In İzmir's Buca district, a suspect was detained for allegedly igniting a forest fire using gasoline. The individual reportedly set fire to their own home before causing the wildfire. According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, between June 26 and July 4, 2025, 65 forest fires occurred in 12 provinces, resulting in 44 suspects being taken into custody. Of these, 10 were initially detained and later 13 suspects have been formally arrested as of July 7. Additionally, six individuals are under judicial control, 13 suspects have given statements, and proceedings continue for 15 others. The Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç confirmed that a total of 67 suspects have been processed in relation to the fires nationwide, with 13 facing arrest orders. The investigations are ongoing, with authorities emphasizing accountability for those responsible for damaging Turkey's green areas.
