Ayşe Tokyaz, a 22-year-old university student in Istanbul, was found dead inside a suitcase on the roadside in the Eyüpsultan district. The victim, who was reportedly in a relationship with former police officer Cemil Koç, was beaten to death and her body was dismembered to the extent that identification was initially impossible. Security camera footage revealed Tokyaz and Koç entering a building together before the murder, with the victim carrying a beverage. Koç and six other suspects were detained and later sent to court; Koç was charged with premeditated murder, while the others were charged with aiding the crime. It was disclosed that Koç had attempted to pay a taxi driver 500,000 Turkish lira to dispose of the body. Additional footage showed Koç and an accomplice transporting the suitcase containing Tokyaz's body from the residence to a vehicle. Tokyaz's twin sister stated that her sister was deceived with promises of marriage. Investigations uncovered that Koç had a prior incident in 2023 where a former girlfriend died after falling from an apartment building, and that Koç's brother was dismissed from the police force in a FETÖ-related inquiry. Following the case developments, the Turkish Interior Ministry assigned one civil and one police inspector to investigate potential police negligence. Koç's testimony has been made public, and he is also expected to give a statement regarding the death of his previous girlfriend two years ago. All seven suspects, including Koç, were formally arrested.
