Turkish authorities conducted an anti-corruption operation early on July 10, 2025, targeting the Şile Municipality in Istanbul. The operation was led by the Istanbul Financial Crimes Unit and resulted in the detention of Şile Mayor Özgür Kabadayı, a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP), along with five other individuals associated with the municipality. The investigation involves allegations of bribery and embezzlement, with some suspects caught on video engaging in bribery negotiations. Following the operation, Kabadayı and four other municipal officials were referred to the magistrate court with requests for their detention, while one individual was subjected to judicial control. Subsequently, on July 16, 2025, the Turkish Ministry of Interior announced the suspension of Mayor Kabadayı from his duties amid the ongoing bribery investigation.
