Two wildfires that began overnight near the western Turkish resort of Izmir have been raging out of control, fueled by high winds and abnormal heat. The fires have resulted in the deaths of two people and forced the evacuation of over 42,000 residents. The blazes have caused heavy damage, with 228 homes, 13 businesses, and 15 barns reported as severely damaged. Turkish authorities, including Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, have been actively involved in assessing the damage and supporting affected communities. The government has pledged to rebuild the damaged homes within six months to a year and has already disbursed approximately 16.9 million Turkish lira in aid payments. Firefighting efforts continue with the deployment of 25,000 personnel, 27 aircraft, 105 helicopters, and 6,000 land vehicles. Additionally, Turkey has managed to control 761 fires in the past ten days and over 3,000 fires since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, in Syria, wildfires along the coast have forced hundreds to flee, prompting UN teams to deploy and calls for increased international support to address the crisis.
