Multiple forest fires have been actively burning in İzmir province, Turkey, affecting the districts of Buca, Ödemiş, Çeşme, and Selçuk since early July 2025. The fire in Buca's Kaynaklar area rapidly expanded due to strong winds, threatening residential zones and prompting evacuation measures. Authorities responded by deploying extensive firefighting resources, including 3 airplanes, 3 helicopters, 16 fire trucks, 3 water supply vehicles, bulldozers, and TOMA riot control vehicles. The İzmir-Aydın highway was temporarily closed as a precaution. Efforts to contain the fires continued overnight and into the following days, with aerial support increasing at dawn, involving up to 4 airplanes and 10 helicopters in Ödemiş. Firefighters, forest workers, and local residents worked collectively to prevent the spread, using hoses and other equipment. Despite the challenging weather conditions, officials reported that the energy of the Çeşme fire had been reduced. The fires have caused significant damage to forested areas, turning green mountains black, and have required continuous intervention from both ground and air teams.
