Amazon Prime Video’s long-gestating adaptation of “God of War” is moving ahead under veteran producer Ronald D. Moore, who confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that the writers’ room is active and scripts for a 10-episode first season are underway. Moore, known for “Battlestar Galactica” and “Outlander,” stepped in last year after the departure of original showrunner Rafe Judkins and will also serve as writer and executive producer. Moore said the series will follow the emotional arc of Sony Santa Monica’s 2018 reboot—centering on Kratos and his son Atreus—while drawing selectively from earlier Greek-mythology storylines. “The tone of the show is trying to emulate the tone of the game: an epic journey with a heartfelt father-and-son story,” he told Collider, adding that game director Cory Barlog is directly involved in shaping the adaptation. Production remains in the early stages, with casting yet to be announced and filming unlikely to start before 2026. Amazon has already provisionally ordered two seasons, positioning “God of War” alongside its other video-game franchises in development, including additional seasons of “Fallout” and a planned “Wolfenstein” series.
