Nintendo has named Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the lead actors in its forthcoming live-action adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda,” casting the 21-year-old British actress as Princess Zelda and the 16-year-old British actor as the franchise’s hero, Link. The announcement was made by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who published first-look images of both performers in early costume. The film is scheduled to reach theaters on May 7, 2027, a shift from the previously targeted March release. “Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball will helm the project, with Miyamoto and longtime Marvel producer Avi Arad serving as producers. Nintendo is co-financing the picture with Sony Pictures and holds a stake of more than 50%, while Sony will handle worldwide distribution. The project follows the $1.3 billion global success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and underscores Nintendo’s broader strategy to extend its game franchises into film and television.
