AMC Networks has ordered a third season of its spinoff series “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” less than a month after the Season 2 finale aired on 22 June. The company also confirmed a change at the top: veteran franchise writer and producer Seth Hoffman will replace series creator Eli Jorné as showrunner. Hoffman, who penned notable episodes of the original “Walking Dead” during its fourth through sixth seasons, will oversee production when filming begins in Boston later this fall. Stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will return as Maggie and Negan and will continue to serve as executive producers alongside Hoffman, franchise chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, Brian Bockrath and Colin Walsh. Announcing the move, Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios, thanked Jorné for guiding the first two seasons and said Hoffman’s appointment would “bring new adversaries and alliances and push the boundaries of Maggie and Negan’s conflicted relationship.” AMC’s early synopsis for Season 3 says the pair attempt to build the first thriving post-apocalyptic community in Manhattan, only to confront fresh turmoil that tests whether they have truly moved past their violent history.
