Cristin Milioti has secured her first Primetime Emmy nomination, earning a spot in the Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series category for her portrayal of mob heiress Sofia Falcone in HBO’s comic-book offshoot "The Penguin." The DC crime drama amassed 24 nominations overall for the 77th Emmy Awards, placing it among this year’s most-recognized programs. The haul includes a Lead Actor nomination for co-star Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, as well as nods in key writing, directing, cinematography, hairstyling and prosthetic makeup categories. Showrunner Lauren LeFranc and director Helen Shaver were singled out for the Sofia-centric episode that charted the character’s violent ascent through Gotham’s underworld. In an interview published after the nominations were announced, Milioti said she was “so thrilled at the amount of nominations that ‘The Penguin’ got,” adding that the experience of playing Sofia had been “deeply meaningful.” She begins filming an as-yet-untitled feature in Ohio next week but said she is “ready to get in there again” should the series return for another season.
