Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese secured his first acting Emmy nomination on Tuesday, landing a slot in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his cameo as himself in Apple TV+’s Hollywood satire “The Studio.” The 82-year-old director appears in the pilot episode pitching a Jonestown film to Seth Rogen’s newly promoted studio chief. Scorsese competes against four fellow guest stars from the same series—Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, Dave Franco and Ron Howard—along with last year’s winner Jon Bernthal for “The Bear.” “The Studio,” co-created by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, collected 23 nominations overall, tying it with “The White Lotus” among the most-recognized titles and earning a berth in the Outstanding Comedy Series race. The nod raises Scorsese’s career Emmy tally to 13 nominations; he previously won three statuettes for directing and producing projects such as “Boardwalk Empire” and the documentary “George Harrison: Living in the Material World.” Winners of the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on Sept. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
