HBO Max premiered the second season of “Peacemaker” on 21 August 2025, extending James Gunn’s roll-out of the new DC Universe. John Cena returns as the irreverent anti-hero, with the eight-episode run kicking off with a single instalment and weekly releases to follow. The opener aligns the series with Gunn’s revised DCU canon by reshooting the Season 1 finale’s cameo: the Snyder-era Justice League is replaced by the Justice Gang—Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and Mister Terrific—flanked by Superman and Supergirl. A recap titled “Previously in the DCU” states the story unfolds about a month after the events of July’s theatrically released “Superman.” Season 2 introduces a more elaborate title sequence set to Foxy Shazam’s “Oh Lord.” The two-day shoot involved nearly 20 cast members and signals the show’s bigger production scale. Early episodes also bring back Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) and unveil Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), tightening narrative links to Gunn’s animated “Creature Commandos.” With the franchise’s continuity reset, Warner Bros. Discovery is using “Peacemaker” to bridge its film and television slate under the DC Studios banner while testing demand for R-rated superhero fare alongside the PG-13 “Superman.” Viewership figures have not yet been disclosed, but analysts will watch whether the series sustains the momentum that made its 2022 debut the most-watched original on the platform at the time.
