HBO has ordered an untitled, six-episode sketch comedy series that reunites “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David with the network and pairs him for the first time with Barack and Michelle Obama, whose Higher Ground banner will produce the show. The half-hour series will satirise moments from U.S. history and is being timed for 2026, the semiquincentennial of the nation’s founding. David will star, co-write and executive-produce alongside long-time collaborator Jeff Schaffer, who will also direct and bring back select cast members from “Curb” plus guest stars. Executive producers include David, Schaffer, the former president and first lady, as well as Higher Ground’s Vinnie Malhotra and Ethan Lewis. HBO did not disclose a premiere date. In a statement, Obama quipped that “nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David,” while David joked that a post-“Curb” foam-party mishap and the mysterious loss of his beehive spurred his return to television.
