HBO Max has given a full series order to “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” a new science-fiction comedy set in the world of “The Big Bang Theory.” The greenlight, announced on 9 July 2025, is the streamer’s first major programming move after reverting to the HBO Max name. The show follows comic-book-store owner Stuart Bloom, played again by Kevin Sussman, who must repair reality after breaking a device invented by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter and unleashing a multiverse Armageddon. Lauren Lapkus (Denise), Brian Posehn (Bert) and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) return to help—or hinder—his quest as the characters encounter alternate-universe versions of the original sitcom’s ensemble. Series creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady reunite as executive producers alongside screenwriter Zak Penn, bringing extensive CGI and genre elements to a franchise best known for its multi-camera sitcom roots. The commission marks the fourth entry in the “Big Bang” universe, following the flagship series, “Young Sheldon,” and “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.” HBO Max has not yet announced a premiere date.
