The Television Academy released the shortlist for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on 15 July, selecting eight shows that span broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. The contenders are ABC’s “Abbott Elementary,” FX’s “The Bear,” HBO’s “Hacks,” Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” Apple TV+ entries “Shrinking” and the newcomer “The Studio,” Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This,” and FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows.” Academy members will cast final votes 18–27 August. Winners will be announced during the live ceremony at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on 14 September, to be broadcast by CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
