Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on the “Raging Moderates” podcast released 15 Aug. that she would nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he can end Russia’s war in Ukraine without forcing Kyiv to surrender territory. Clinton, 77, said the accolade would be justified only if a cease-fire is secured and Russian forces ultimately withdraw from all land seized since February 2022. Asked about the comment during a Fox News interview aboard Air Force One, Trump called the offer “very nice” and quipped that he “may have to start liking her again.” The president, who has long expressed interest in winning the Nobel, added that it is “not for me to negotiate for Ukraine,” but said a successful outcome would benefit U.S. and European security. Trump was en route to Anchorage for his first face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin since 2019. U.S. officials say the Alaska talks on 16 Aug. are aimed at gauging Moscow’s willingness to agree to a broader cease-fire and to lay groundwork for a possible second summit that could include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
