Former U.S. secretary of state Hillary Clinton said she is prepared to nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he can broker an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. The unexpected offer came during an episode of the “Raging Moderates” podcast released on 15 August. Clinton stressed that any deal worthy of the prize must leave Kyiv free of territorial concessions and require Moscow to withdraw from land it has seized. “My goal here is to prevent capitulation to Putin,” she said, adding that Trump would deserve the honor only if he secured a cease-fire that respects Ukraine’s borders and European security. Her remarks landed hours before Trump’s high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Trump, who has long expressed interest in the award, told reporters en route that he aims to get both sides to the negotiating table and put the odds of failure at 25 percent. Clinton’s public readiness to back a Nobel bid for her 2016 rival underscores the diplomatic importance attached to any breakthrough in the conflict, now in its fourth year. While Nobel nominations can be submitted by former heads of state and members of government, the committee will judge only completed results; the next deadline for candidates is 31 January 2026.
