A powerful explosion struck the Kyiv CHP-6 combined heat and power plant on the city’s left bank on 6 July, sending a thick column of black smoke over the Troieshchyna industrial area. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the blast was caused by the detonation of a tank containing fuel and lubricants in a commercial hangar adjacent to the facility. Emergency services were deployed, and authorities were still assessing casualties and structural damage late Sunday afternoon. The explosion cut electricity to parts of the Dniprovskyi district. Officials have not indicated whether the incident is connected to Russian strikes on the capital. An investigation into the cause and full impact of the blast is under way.
