The top U.S. military officer, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is expected to take part virtually in a meeting of NATO chiefs of defense that will focus on the war in Ukraine, according to U.S. and alliance officials. NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone said he will moderate the videoconference on Wednesday, bringing together defense leaders from all 32 member states to assess battlefield developments and consider longer-term security guarantees for Kyiv. Officials added that military representatives from Germany, the United Kingdom and France are also due in Washington later in the week for follow-up consultations with U.S. counterparts. The talks follow last week’s meeting in Alaska between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and subsequent White House discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, which aimed to revive diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Military leaders from the U.S. and NATO are set to meet to discuss strategies aimed at securing peace in Ukraine.
