Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv has secured about $1.5 billion from European allies to buy U.S-made weapons through NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, a mechanism that pools funds for joint procurement. The Netherlands has pledged $500 million, Denmark, Norway and Sweden have committed a combined $500 million, and Germany has set aside a further $500 million. Berlin separately signalled support for a $500 million U.S. weapons package, reinforcing Germany’s role as the largest individual contributor in the latest funding round. Zelensky described the PURL initiative as a tool that “truly strengthens our defence” by accelerating deliveries of critically needed arms. Additional financial assistance is also flowing to Kyiv. The European Commission plans to transfer €1.6 billion generated from frozen Russian assets, while Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has ordered $2 million in humanitarian aid for Ukraine, earmarked for Azerbaijani-made electrical equipment to help stabilise the country’s energy grid.
