The U.S. State Department has cleared two Foreign Military Sales packages for Ukraine worth a combined $203.5 million, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said on 5 August. One authorization covers about $104 million in equipment, repair services and long-term sustainment support for M777 howitzers already operated by Ukrainian forces. The second, valued at roughly $99.5 million, provides transportation and consolidation services to move U.S. security-assistance materiel to Ukraine. Congressional notification kicks off a review period, after which the contracts can be negotiated with U.S. industry. Washington has framed the deals as strengthening Kyiv’s ability to defend itself amid Russia’s continuing invasion.
