The Netherlands became the first NATO member to finance weapon deliveries to Kyiv through the alliance’s new Priority Ukraine Requirements List, committing €500 million for Patriot missiles and other U.S.-made systems, the Dutch Defence Ministry said. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and U.S. Ambassador to NATO Bridget Whitaker said the mechanism is designed to speed equipment from American stockpiles to the front and will match future tranches to battlefield needs identified by Ukraine. Within 24 hours of The Hague’s announcement, Sweden, Denmark and Norway pledged an additional package valued at roughly $500 million, also earmarked for U.S. air-defence and munitions purchases. The two tranches lift European commitments under the new scheme to more than $1 billion, with further announcements expected, according to Rutte. The initiative comes as European allies seek to fill a gap left by Washington’s pause in fresh bilateral aid while maintaining access to U.S. arsenals. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters he discussed the emerging funding stream during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday. Zelensky said the conversation also covered intensified Russian missile attacks, a prospective U.S.–Ukraine drone deal and Trump’s deadline for President Vladimir Putin to accept a cease-fire or face tougher sanctions. Kyiv is banking on the NATO-coordinated purchases to bolster its air defences ahead of what officials warn could be a renewed Russian offensive.
🇺🇦 Zelensky: I had a very good conversation with Mark Rutte. In two days, we have over one billion dollars from our European NATO partners for the purchase of American weapons. We also discussed diplomatic efforts with partners to expand cooperation and support for Ukraine. https://t.co/NP52xlgIZs
