Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has called for an independent investigation into the management of the Dragon Bravo Fire, a wildfire that burned in the Grand Canyon area during one of the driest Julys on record. The governor and other officials, including Senators Ruben Gallego and Paul Gosar, have questioned the federal decision to allow a controlled burn during the hottest part of summer, which contributed to the fire's spread and the destruction of the Grand Canyon Lodge. Governor Hobbs criticized the federal response, specifically questioning why the wildfire was not immediately suppressed. In addition to the Dragon Bravo Fire, air tankers have dropped 180,000 gallons of retardant to combat the growing Wild Sage Fire in northern Arizona. The Department of the Interior is being urged to provide answers and conduct a full investigation into the wildfire management practices.
