Assaults against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and other federal agents conducting immigration enforcement have risen sharply this year, according to figures provided by the Department of Homeland Security. DHS recorded 79 assault incidents from 21 January through 30 June 2025, up from 10 in the same period of 2024—a 690% increase. The department said the tally could grow as additional reports are processed. While DHS did not release a geographic breakdown, recent criminal complaints detail separate attacks in California, Nebraska and Minnesota, including a failed Molotov-cocktail incident near Los Angeles International Airport and the attempted murder of an agent during a traffic stop in Bellevue, Nebraska. Officials attributed the spike to heightened immigration-enforcement activity and cautioned that inflammatory rhetoric aimed at federal officers may be contributing to the rise in violence. The data emerge as the Trump administration accelerates deportation operations and seeks additional funding for detention capacity and 10,000 new ICE officers.
