Trump Orders Probe Into Funding Behind Texas ICE Ambush

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he has ordered an investigation into who financed a July 4 ambush on Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Alvarado, Texas, asserting that “people on the left” with money supplied the attackers with brand-new firearms, body armor and other equipment. Federal prosecutors this week charged ten people with three counts each of attempted murder of a federal officer and discharging a firearm in relation to the shooting outside ICE’s Prairieland Detention Facility, where an officer was hit in the neck after gunmen opened fire from across the street. An eleventh person was charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy to destroy evidence. Trump, who is overseeing a nationwide deportation push, told Fox News his administration would “get to the bottom” of any funding network and said those responsible should face “very stiff” penalties. He made the remarks as Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Alex Padilla introduced legislation requiring ICE agents to display visible identification—a proposal the president argued would further endanger officers.
