A new CNN national poll released on 14 August 2025 shows U.S. voters now give President Donald Trump a plus-1 net approval rating on his handling of crime, a 14-point turnaround from March 2024, when he stood at minus 13. By contrast, the same survey places former President Joe Biden at minus 26 on the issue. CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, who presented the findings on air, said the results translate into a 16-point advantage for Republicans over Democrats on crime policy. Enten argued that the gap underscores how voters remain “far more hawkish on crime” than many Democratic strategists appreciate. Enten added that the polling was completed before Trump’s recent order to federalize policing in Washington, D.C., and deploy National Guard units to the capital—measures the administration says are aimed at curbing violent crime nationwide.
