TRUMP PICK MIRAN IS ON TRACK FOR CONFIRMATION BEFORE FED MEETS
Senate Republicans are moving to secure confirmation of Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors before the Federal Open Market Committee meets in mid-September, according to people familiar with the chamber’s schedule. The Senate Banking Committee is expected to hold Miran’s confirmation hearing next week, setting up a potential floor vote within days. GOP leaders have signaled they are prepared to alter Senate rules unilaterally if Democrats attempt to prolong debate on Trump’s nominees. Majority Whip John Barrasso said Republicans will discuss options—including shortening debate time and resorting to recess appointments—when lawmakers return to Washington after the August break. Miran, a former Treasury official and current economic consultant, would fill one of two vacancies on the seven-member Fed board. Securing his seat ahead of the September meeting would give President Trump a stronger voice in the central bank’s policy deliberations as officials weigh whether to extend this year’s series of rate cuts.
