🚨New: Trump makes a new statement on Powell's job: “He’s doing a lousy job, but no, I’m not talking about that. President Donald Trump on 16 July renewed his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, telling reporters the central-bank chief is “too late” in responding to economic conditions and is doing “a terrible job.” Trump said he is “not planning on doing anything” to remove Powell before the end of his statutory term but stressed that the White House will be able to select a new Fed leader “in about eight months.” He added that he does not rule out any option, although he considers a dismissal “highly unlikely.” The president suggested former Council of Economic Advisers chairman Kevin Hassett is among the candidates the administration could consider when the role becomes available, saying the next appointee would be “someone who is good.”
