U.S. President Donald Trump said on 16 July that Kevin Hassett, a senior White House adviser and former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, is among the candidates he is considering to lead the Federal Reserve. Trump told reporters that “a lot of people” are interested in the post but stressed he is looking only at those who favour low interest rates. The president did not give a timetable for his decision on who will succeed current Fed Chair Jerome Powell, whose term ends in early 2026.
