Bandai Namco has unveiled “Once Upon a Katamari,” the first entirely new console entry in the Katamari Damacy franchise in 14 years. The title is scheduled to launch digitally on 24 October 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with Japan receiving the game a day earlier on 23 October. The game sends the diminutive Prince on a time-hopping quest after the King of All Cosmos once again destroys the Earth and stars. Players roll their katamari through periods including the Jurassic era, ancient Egypt and the Far West, gathering objects to rebuild the cosmos. Fresh mechanics expand the series’ signature gameplay: collectible rockets boost speed, magnets draw in nearby items and a timer can temporarily freeze moving objects. The Prince is joined by 68 playable cousins, all of whom can be customised. Multiplayer returns with KatamariBall, a four-player online battle mode where competitors trade their accumulated mass for points. The announcement, made during a Nintendo Partner Direct, ends a long drought of new console releases for the cult favourite series, which has been limited to mobile spin-offs and remasters since 2011’s “Touch My Katamari.”
