Square Enix announced two new titles during Nintendo’s Partner Showcase on 31 July. The publisher confirmed ‘Octopath Traveler 0’, the third entry in its HD-2D role-playing series, will launch worldwide on 4 December for Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Switch 2. Tweets from retail trackers also list PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and PC versions, although Square Enix has not formally detailed releases for those platforms. The company also introduced ‘The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales’, an HD-2D action RPG scheduled for 2026 on Switch 2, with additional platforms yet to be specified. A playable demo went live on the Switch 2 eShop immediately after the presentation to collect player feedback on exploration and combat systems. Both projects extend Square Enix’s use of its hybrid 3D-pixel art “HD-2D” aesthetic, which the firm has leveraged in the Octopath and Bravely Default franchises. The simultaneous reveal underscores Nintendo’s push to flesh out the Switch 2 software pipeline ahead of the console’s expected 2025 debut.
