Electronic Arts said it will permanently switch off servers for Anthem on 12 January 2026, rendering the online-only action game unplayable. Sales of the title’s premium virtual currency were halted on 3 July, though existing balances can be spent until the shutdown. The publisher will also remove Anthem from the EA Play subscription catalogue on 15 August 2025. EA added that the decision will not trigger layoffs at BioWare, the studio behind the 2019 release. Anthem struggled to attract a sustained audience after launch and a planned overhaul was scrapped in 2021, placing the game among several high-profile live-service projects recently retired by major publishers.
