Gearbox Software has unveiled Borderlands 4, the latest installment in its popular looter-shooter franchise, with multiple hands-on previews and developer insights highlighting the game's ambitious evolution. The game promises seamless combat, looting, and leveling up within a more expansive and interconnected open world called Kairos, which differs from the previous setting, Pandora. Borderlands 4 introduces a soft reboot of the series, featuring four new Vault Hunters, a diverse and extensive skill tree larger than those of Borderlands 2 and 3 combined, and new gameplay elements such as team vehicles, mission replay, and a hoverbike. The game also emphasizes a more serious narrative tone with a compelling villain known as the Timekeeper, who rules over the late-game city Dominion. Additional features include a Claptrap volume slider and various side activities designed to enrich player engagement. The title aims to recapture the franchise's core appeal while incorporating fresh ideas to attract both newcomers and longtime fans. Borderlands 4 is set for release on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
