Nintendo has begun circulating an online questionnaire that asks Switch 2 owners how they buy and play games, with several sections devoted to the console’s controversial “Game-Key Card” format. The survey, which went live on 4 August, probes whether respondents would purchase titles distributed on key cards that trigger a full download and must remain inserted to launch the software. Game-Key Cards have drawn sustained criticism since they replaced traditional cartridges for most third-party releases. Players say the medium undercuts long-term ownership because it relies on Nintendo’s servers and consumes the console’s 256 GB of onboard storage. Concerns intensified after last week’s Nintendo Direct partner showcase confirmed that forthcoming titles such as Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler 0 and Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will ship only as key cards on Switch 2. In the survey, Nintendo asks consumers to rank their likelihood of buying download-dependent physical games and to explain whether factors such as resale value, gift-giving convenience or a “stronger sense of ownership” influence their choices. While the company has not said how it will use the feedback, the outreach marks its most direct attempt yet to gauge reaction to the new distribution model.
