The Pokémon Company has withdrawn two cards from the newly released “Wisdom of Sea & Sky” expansion for its Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile game after confirming that the artwork was based on an unauthorized fan drawing. In a statement on 30 July 2025, the company said the production team had supplied “incorrect reference materials” to the commissioned illustrator, leading the Ho-Oh EX and Lugia EX immersive cards to replicate an image created by Chinese fan artist @lanjiujiu. Both cards have been replaced in-app with temporary placeholders while new artwork is produced. The publisher said it is conducting a wider review of its quality-control procedures and investigating whether similar issues exist elsewhere in the game. It apologized “deeply” to players and artists and pledged to prevent a recurrence.
