Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis poured into the streets of Sana'a, Sa'dah and several other provinces on 4 July and again on 11 July to demonstrate against Israel’s war in Gaza and Washington’s support for the campaign. Crowds filled Al-Sabeen Square in the capital and Al-Rasoul Al-Aazam Square in Sa'dah, waving Yemeni and Palestinian flags and chanting under banners that read “Steadfast with Gaza—our marches continue, our operations escalate.” Organisers, aligned with the Houthi-run authorities, claimed turnout reached “a million” in the capital and cited 206 separate marches in Ibb province and 46 in Dhamar. Similar demonstrations were reported in Dhale, Taiz and Hajjah. Participants pledged to maintain weekly protests until Israel ends its assault and lifts the blockade of the enclave. A statement released during the rallies condemned what it called Arab governments’ silence, urged a consumer boycott of Israeli and US products, and vowed that Yemeni forces would keep striking Israeli-linked targets. The protests form part of a near-weekly mobilisation that began after the Gaza war erupted in October 2023; Houthi fighters have since claimed missile and drone attacks on Israel and on vessels bound for its ports. The Gaza conflict continues to exact a heavy toll. PressTV, citing Gaza authorities, reports at least 57,268 Palestinians have been killed, most of them women and children. Friday’s marches underscore Yemen’s role as one of the few Middle Eastern fronts where public protest and armed action are unfolding in tandem against Israel’s campaign.
