FX Networks has unveiled a full-length trailer and expanded marketing push for “Alien: Earth,” Noah Hawley’s eight-episode prequel series set in the Alien universe. The show will debut 12 August on FX and Hulu in the United States and stream on Disney+ internationally, with executive production from Hawley and franchise creator Ridley Scott. Set in the year 2120—two years before the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film—the storyline begins when Weyland-Yutani’s research ship USCSS Maginot crashes into the densely populated Prodigy City, releasing five lethal alien species, including the iconic Xenomorph. Sydney Chandler stars as Wendy, a ‘hybrid’ synthetic with a child’s uploaded consciousness, who leads a tactical unit alongside Timothy Olyphant’s mentor-android Kirsh. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hawley said he modelled the opening episode on the original movie’s claustrophobic tone and plans eventually to show the other side of Weyland-Yutani’s fateful order that redirected the Nostromo to LV-426. Introducing new creatures, he explained, is meant to restore “the feeling of discovery” that defined the first film’s horror. The cast also features Babou Ceesay and Samuel Blenkin and explores corporate rivalry between Prodigy and Weyland-Yutani. Supporting the launch, FX will release an official companion podcast, panoramic set imagery and an Apple Vision Pro experience on 24 July. The first two episodes air back-to-back on 12 August, with weekly installments through 23 September.
