Argentine federal judge Sebastián Casanello ordered a series of raids in the gated community of Nordelta on 26 August as part of an investigation into alleged kickbacks in drug purchases by the government-run Agencia Nacional de Discapacidad (ANDIS). Investigators seized security-camera recordings, personnel files and mobile phones after suspecting that Nordelta’s security chief, Ariel De Vicentis, warned the owners of Droguería Suizo Argentina that police were seeking them. De Vicentis denied obstructing justice. Police found US$266,000 and about 7 million pesos in cash when they intercepted Emmanuel Kovalivker, one of the brothers who control Droguería Suizo Argentina, while his sibling Jonathan Kovalivker later surrendered a mobile phone to the court. The company is under scrutiny after leaked audio recordings by former ANDIS head Diego Spagnuolo suggested that bribes were paid to secure medicine contracts with the agency. President Javier Milei responded by circulating a statement from Droguería Suizo Argentina rejecting the allegations, while the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, dismissed the case as a political operation by the opposition. Pollster Opina Argentina reported Milei’s public approval sliding to 45 percent, the lowest since he took office, as the scandal widened. Opposition figures, led by Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, seized on the controversy to intensify criticism of the administration’s economic and governance record. The courts are continuing forensic work on seized mobile devices, including that of Spagnuolo, as they decide whether to bring formal corruption charges.
