Netflix has released the first trailer for “aka Charlie Sheen,” a two-part documentary that revisits the actor’s ascent to Hollywood stardom and the public unraveling that followed years of substance abuse and personal scandal. The film, directed by Andrew Renzi, will begin streaming on 10 September. In the trailer issued 13 August, Sheen, 59, reflects on what he calls “suffocating shame” and details previously undisclosed episodes from his life after nearly eight years of sobriety. The production features interviews with former wives Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller, Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre, co-star Jon Cryer, actor Sean Penn, former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss, comedian Chris Tucker and an ex-drug dealer identified as Marco. The documentary’s release is timed to coincide with Sheen’s 368-page memoir, “The Book of Sheen,” which Gallery Books will publish on 9 September, a day before the film appears on Netflix. Together, the projects mark the most extensive public accounting yet of the actor’s turbulent career and efforts at recovery.
