Typhoon Danas, the fourth typhoon of 2025, made landfall on Taiwan's southwestern coast on July 6 as a Category 2 cyclone with winds reaching 105 mph (170 kph), rapidly intensifying from 70 mph within 24 hours. The storm struck near Kouhu Township in Yunlin County, marking the strongest typhoon to hit the county on record. Danas brought record winds of up to 220 kph (approximately 137 mph) and heavy rainfall to Taiwan's densely populated west coast, causing widespread disruption. The typhoon resulted in two fatalities and injured more than 500 people across the island. Over 660,000 households experienced power outages, and numerous flights and high-speed rail services were canceled or disrupted. Schools and businesses were closed in multiple counties. After crossing Taiwan, Danas weakened to a tropical storm and moved northward toward China's eastern seaboard, making its third landfall late on July 8 in Rui'an City, Zhejiang Province, with winds up to 20 m/s (about 45 mph) and a central pressure of at least 992 hPa. In response, Chinese authorities implemented large-scale evacuations, suspended transportation, and closed schools in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces. The storm caused heavy rains and flash flood alerts in eastern China as it tracked across the region's industrial areas.
