China recorded a total of 333 million border crossings in the first half of 2025, marking a 15.8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the National Immigration Administration. Among these crossings, foreign nationals accounted for 38.05 million trips, a 30.2% year-on-year rise. Visa-free entries by foreign nationals surged 53.9% to 13.64 million, representing 71.2% of all foreign entries. Additionally, mainland Chinese residents made 159 million crossings, while residents from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan accounted for 136 million crossings. Beijing Daxing International Airport surpassed 3 million entries and exits in 2025 so far, with a 30.4% increase over the previous year, including over 410,000 foreign arrivals. The National Immigration Administration also reported that 21.28 million travelers benefited from facial recognition clearance as of June 30, 2025, following pilot programs launched in Guangdong Province. Furthermore, more than 10.6 million ordinary passports and 47.4 million entry-exit permits were issued to mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. On the freight transport front, Erenhot Port in Inner Mongolia, the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border, facilitated 2,000 China-Europe freight trains this year, serving 73 routes linking over 60 Chinese cities to more than 70 cities or stations across over 10 countries.
