In the second quarter of 2025, Apple's iPhone sales in China increased by 8% year-over-year, marking the first growth in two years according to Counterpoint Research. Despite this quarterly growth, Apple's overall smartphone sales in China declined by 1.6% year-over-year in Q2, as reported by Counterpoint and IDC. The Chinese smartphone market itself contracted by 2.4% in the same period, with total shipments falling to 69 million units. Huawei reclaimed the top position in China's smartphone market for the first time in over four years, capturing an 18.1% market share. This comeback was driven by new designs and software appealing to consumers amid a slowing market. Other leading Chinese brands such as Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi followed Huawei, while Apple ranked fifth with a 13.9% share. The competitive landscape reflects ongoing challenges in China’s smartphone sector, including a prolonged market contraction and shifting consumer preferences. Meanwhile, the U.S. smartphone market saw modest growth of 1% in Q2 2025, with a notable decrease in the share of smartphones assembled in China, dropping from 61% in Q2 2024 to 25% in Q2 2025, as production in India increased significantly.
