A series of heavy rainstorms have prompted multiple alerts across Mexico City from August 22 to August 27, 2025. The Secretariat of Integrated Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) activated various alert levels due to forecasts of intense rainfall, electrical discharges, and possible hail. On August 22 and 23, alerts were issued for nine boroughs including Álvaro Obregón, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco, with Azcapotzalco placed under a red alert due to severe conditions. These rains caused flooding, water currents, and fallen branches or light structures on streets. By August 24, the government reported responding to 24 flooded areas and the fall of 13 trees. The alerts continued through the weekend, with yellow alerts extended to seven boroughs by August 25 and nine boroughs by August 26. On August 27, the red alert was declared for Tlalpan, with orange alerts for Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, and Milpa Alta, and yellow alerts for Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuauhtémoc, Miguel Hidalgo, and Xochimilco. The rainfall in Tlalpan was measured between 50 and 70 millimeters. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions and avoid flood-prone areas. Concurrently, Beijing issued red rainstorm warnings due to flooding and landslide risks from heavy rains until Wednesday night.
