The 12th edition of The World Games commenced on August 7, 2025, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, marking the first time the event is hosted on the Chinese mainland. This international multi-sport event, held outside the Olympic Games, features 3,942 athletes from 112 countries and regions competing in 256 events across 34 sports. The opening ceremony took place at the Tianfu International Convention Center and was declared open by Chinese State Councillor Shen Yiqin. The ceremony included a flying disc symbolically traveling across the globe to Chengdu, a main cauldron lit in water, a choral performance of the theme song "Voice of Amity" by child singers from China and around the world, and a fireworks display described as a "tree of life." China sent its largest-ever delegation of 489 members, including 321 athletes. On August 8, Lu Zhuoling won the women's Wushu Taijiquan-Taijijian final, securing the first gold medal for China at the Games. Additionally, Valentina Toro earned Chile's first-ever medal at The World Games, winning a historic bronze in karate.
